Forward Is The Only Way

Updated: Oct 19, 2020

It's okay to look in the rear view mirror to appreciate where you have been and to recall the lessons that you have learned along the way, but your focus? ...that needs to be on what's ahead of you, because forward is the only way to reach your goals.

Some important questions to ask yourself:

  • What direction are you moving in?

  • Do you know where you are headed?

  • Is that direction in line with your goals?

  • Do you even know where you want to go?

  • Do you even have goals?

If you couldn't answer these questions or need to set some goals and decide what direction you need to move in, I highly recommend checking out the blog post I did on self-reflection.

Another great way to get clear on what you desire is to get quiet! Mediation is a great way to silence the mind and figure out what is important to you.

Quick Meditation:

  • Find a quiet place to sit of lay down where you will not be disturbed. If you are sitting in a chair, make sure both feet are planted on the ground. If you are sitting cross legged on the floor, place a pillow or folded blanket under your booty to help you sit tall and strong. Laying down is also an option but I do not recommend if you are tired cause you'll probably fall asleep.

  • Set a timer for 5 mins so you don't worry about how long it's been since you started.

  • Close your eyes and focus on your breath.

  • Push any thoughts that pop into your head away. Be mindful of them but don't dwell on them.

  • Return to the breath if you get distracted. Take 3 deep breaths in and 3 long breaths out. This usually helps to recenter the mind.

  • Do the best you can until the timer goes off.

  • Try again tomorrow.

Yes, the goal of mediation is to quiet the mind and focus on the breath, however if you are mindful of the thoughts that keep popping into your mind, you might end up with a clue as to where your focus needs to go.

The practice of meditation will also become easier if you incorporate it into your daily routine. A great time to try it is first thing in the morning, before the day swallows your focus, or before bed when you need to clear you mind to ensure restful sleep.

You need to get clear on what you want and why you want it and meditation is a great tool in doing this.

Moving around aimlessly through life will not bring you success and you can't achieve your goals if you haven't set them either.

A mind that has nothing positive to focus on will focus on the negative by default and welp, nothing good can come of that.

Make happiness your priority.

Figure out what will makes you happy and then put one foot in the front of the other until you reach your destination.

Forward is the only way to change what your not happy with right now. Focusing on a past that you cannot change is a waste of energy. So why would you choose to waste your energy on things you cannot change?
